Information Age Is Dead. The Attention Economy Is Here.

Information age is dead.

Information age as it was for marketers is dead.

That’s right, in a world where everyone has information at their fingertips customer attention is harder to capture and keep more than ever before.

Marketing through sheer volume of content simply doesn’t work towards building a successful business anymore.

Everyone, including your customers, are being bombarded by tons of media trying to capture their attention.

The ATTENTION economy is here.

Let me tell you a small story...

In 2013, I went to Iquitos, Peru to partake in an Ayahuasca ceremony. I spent a few days checking out the small town. It's a bustling, lively place with small markets and plenty of exotic Amazonian artifacts being bought and sold.
For merchants and street peddlers it's a tough job to get attention of passing tourists and visitors.
I've see some interesting attempts street peddlers use to get people's attention. Most of it annoying, but there was a young kid that got my attention.
He was holding a gigantic insect in his hands, waving it towards me while I was passing by. It was huge that it covered his entire palm.
I had to stop and look. His friendly and inviting face allowed me to let my guard down and walk toward him.
He told me it's a "Titan Beetle" and he caught it in the jungle. I asked him if I could take a picture and he allowed me. He was holding some Peruvian money (Soles) in his other hands and so I handed him a $10 bill as a way of saying thank you.

Do you see what happened there?

This young boy pulled one of the age old marketing techniques called "GETTING ATTENTION"!

Attention is the most useful thing you can have to sell stuff. If you simply look at people in the media, you'll notice that ALL they do is GET ATTENTION.

The Kardashian and the like... While most people may call it cheap and a desperate attempt to get attention, these modern geniuses use the most instinctive tactics to earn millions (billions) of dollars.

Like I said, the Information Age is over for marketers. It's the ATTENTION AGE!.

What do you think?

What do you do to get attention for your business?
